Time for tea? Green tea! Tea pearls or Gunpowder Tea! Even Earl Grey. 70 million Brits can't all be wrong ( not to mention the Commonwealth). A caffeine jolt (minor) or goodness chemicals from the green tea can only be good for first the bladder and then the kidneys. I recommend Tea Therapy--- but the 4 o'clock malaise is something that I join you in investigating emotionally.

Although you focus on the emotional aspects of the 4:00 p.m. malaise, I'd like to suggest another component. As we get older, our brains have to work a little bit harder at doing what we do. It has been shown that we maintain our cognitive function pretty much intact, barring illness, until we're about 80. However, we employ more of our brain capacity to do things we used to do "with one hand tied behind our backs" so to speak. It's why multi-tasking is harder with age. In any event, what I find is that at some point in the afternoon, my brain needs a rest. I can register the feeling as sadness, agitation, discouragment, or some other negative emotion. However, the truth is, those are symptoms, and the problem is the brain needs a time-out. Exercise, during which my brain rests from the kind of work it does during the rest of the day, or a Nap, during which my brain consolidates its short term memory and does some processing, are the things that relieve this problem.
